We had so much fun two years ago, meeting Jenn at Stetson University to go to a ball game, that we planned to go again her senior year. Like our first Hatters game two years ago, we had hot dogs first at baseball-themed Casey’s on the Corner. This time Josh was with us. More

I recently discovered Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland, Florida, a fantastic birding spot! We were only there for a little over two hours (and didn’t even walk a mile into the reserve… all the birds were about a quarter mile from the nature center). Even at noon the birds were active and out in the open.

I took up birdwatching forty years ago, but my birding was pretty sporadic until two years ago when I realized I needed to fit things in my schedule that I really enjoy doing, not just what has to be done. Occasionally now I’ll stop at a park or go for a walk in a new area with my binoculars and bird book in hand.
One very easy birding opportunity for me is when Great Horned owls return to nest in an old oak, dripping with Spanish moss. We can just park our car on a city street, often stopping to check on the owls on our way home from church. We’ve enjoyed watching the owls every winter for two years now. More

I discovered that Meade Botanical Gardens, not far from Rollins College in Winter Park, is a hot spot for fall migrators, especially warblers. I had a great morning about two weeks ago with neighbor and friend, Sheila. We joined an Audobon Society guided walk and saw lots of birds (the last walk they’ll offer for the fall migration is on October 27th). More
