Mike, Mission Teams, and Filter of Hope
In John 4:13-14, Jesus took a common physical need for good drinking water and turned it toward the Samaritan woman’s spiritual condition. Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The Samaritan woman believed Christ was the Messiah. She shared this good news with her village.
Filter of Hope Partnership
Over the years, Cru has formed partnerships with many like-minded ministries. Mike has been helping with a collaboration with Filter of Hope (FoH). Filter of Hope’s water filters are affordable and effective. They can be used in homes where drinking water is unsafe. FoH organizes trips for teams to bring filters to homes in Latin America and the Caribbean (see map). The teams show how to use and care for the filter. Then, they share a simple message: God forgives and saves through Jesus Christ.
Filterofhope.org states: “No one should have to live without clean drinking water. Everyone deserves the opportunity to know Christ personally. Thousands of children die every week because they drink contaminated water, and over 4 billion people currently face eternity separated from God. Together, we can change lives forever.”
Mike’s Project Team
For the last six months, Mike has worked with a group from the Campus Ministry and our U.S. Technology department. We have built a “bridge” between Filter of Hope’s software and Cru’s systems. Mike’s group has completed their work. Our Campus ministry staff will begin searching for campus ministries and students to join this mission. Students will reach out to family, friends, and churches for help with the cost of this effort. Donors will find the trip and student on Cru’s give site and donate there. Clean water and the Gospel will save lives.
Mission Teams
This spring, Cru’s Campus Ministry and other ministries plan to send more than 50 Cru mission teams through this FoH partnership. Cru expects to send more than 1000 students and Cru staff.
Please pray the systems work well and that many trips will be possible. Please pray for the staff and students who will go and for God to work in their lives. Thank you for praying for those who receive the filters. May God change their lives now and for eternity. As always, we thank you for your prayers and financial investments. You are a vital part of making these mission projects possible.
Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” – John 7:37-38 (ESV)
