“My faith became my life.”
Wes was desperate. He almost took his life the day before he moved to the University of Florida (UF). Wes’s youth pastor back home in Tallahassee helped him meet a friend involved with Cru. That friend helped Wes plug into a Cru group at UF. Wes wondered, “God saved me from myself, so clearly I have a purpose. But what is it?”
Wes went on a Cru mission trip to Lake Tahoe. He used the leadership training he received back on the Gainesville campus.
During the pandemic, Wes transferred from UF to the University of Central Florida (UCF). At UCF, in Orlando, Cru’s campus staff team wanted to reach all 70,000 students with the good news of Jesus.
Our staff challenged Wes and two other young men to build a spiritual community of college students. Three students grew to more than 50 people involved and 15-20 student leaders. (This is what Cru describes as spiritual multiplication.) These students form one of many groups on the UCF campus.
Wes is interning with Cru. He says, “The way I describe Cru’s impact is that I came into college with my faith as a part of my life. After I went on the summer mission, my faith became my life.”
When Bill and Vonette Bright launched Campus Crusade for Christ in 1951, their slogan was “Win the campus today and change the world tomorrow.” Our staff and volunteers are still on the frontlines in the battle for students’ and professors’ minds and hearts.
Our Part in the Story
God is using our skills and interests more than ever before. Mike is assisting with our missions software that Wes used to become part of the Lake Tahoe trip. Every year, Cru mobilizes thousands of students to join the Great Commission. We send them to reach others with the message of Christ through summer missions and Spring Break trips. Mike is humbled and grateful to have a part in student missions. Our work helps our staff and volunteers introduce students and others to Jesus in over 190 countries.
Your Part in the Story
It’s a privilege to serve the Lord with you. Through your partnership with us, we help Cru staff members and students minister around the world to those without Christ. Your partnership has helped them also disciple and train believers for God’s glory. We pray the Lord gives you great joy in knowing you have a part in changing students’ lives and sending them into God’s harvest.
We are grateful for your partnership.

This story is really powerful! Wes was feeling hopeless, but then he found meaning in his life through his faith. The organization Cru helped him change his life completely. What’s amazing is that after Wes changed, he went on to help many other students change their lives too. It’s like dropping a stone in water – the ripples spread out and affect many people. This shows how one person finding their way can lead to many others finding theirs. It’s a great example of how campus religious groups are still making real differences in people’s lives!
