Vero Beach

Some ideas for when you visit Vero Beach.
The Ocean Grill has very tasty food (pricey, though) and a fun, eclectic interior. You could park near the restaurant and do shops and walk the beach. There’s plenty of beach access points along A1A north and south of Vero Beach. Disney has a resort north of the restaurant on A1A.
We stopped at the McLarty Treasure Museum. It was fascinating to learn about 1,500 survivors stranded here when a fleet of Spanish treasure ships sank off the coast in 1715.
We only had a half hour to stop at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. I can’t guarantee you would see dolphins, but if you want to try, we saw a pod of dolphins feeding in the river.
Here’s a good list of things to do in and near Vero Beach. Continue reading Vero Beach

The Bowler

… I quickly found out that this near-sixty Southern gentleman attended a church near ours.

“It’s gotten too big, though,” he admitted. “I feel like a number.”

“Do you have a small group you can go to?”

“Oh, I bowl professionally every other Sunday so we have extra income for things we want to buy,” he excused himself. “My wife says I need to get my priorities straight.” He went on to explain how his bowling schedule would be busier in December.

“You must be very good.”

“I am,” he beamed.

Chuck went on with his inspection and I prayed for God’s guidance. I immediately sensed that I should give him a copy of Randy Alcorn’s The Treasure Principle. I had several copies in the house for gift-giving to specific people. I didn’t believe and didn’t act on that impression. . . Continue reading The Bowler

Rescuing Men from Darkness

“In His hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are His also.” ~ Psalm 95:4
“Porque en su mano estan las profundidades de la tierra, y las Alturas de los montes son suyas.” ~ Salmos 95:4
“… the Chilean TV says that 1,000,000,000 of people were watching the rescue of the Chilean miners.
“… which brings to mind Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. He gave His life as a ransom to rescue humanity, and has demonstrated that He is an expert at freeing souls that are trapped in the depths of the abyss.
“… it was humble men, who had no public or media relevance before the collapse of the mine, who installed the quote of the event all the different media platforms all over the world. I suspect that ‘Thank you Lord!’ was the general feeling of the entire Chilean population. Continue reading Rescuing Men from Darkness

A Light in Jerusalem

Labib was running late… “May I see your identification?” An Israeli soldier barred his way…
“Stand against the wall,” the soldier ordered, indicating with a nod of his head that he should line up with several other Palestinians and wait…
“May I say something to you?” he said in passable Hebrew to the soldier who was poring over several sets of papers. “I am a Christian… What I mean is that I am a believer in Jesus Christ, not just a Christian by religion only. Do you know about Jesus Christ? I will tell you about Him!” And so Labib began to tell the story of his Lord.
… While most Palestinians dreaded these inevitable checkpoints that severely restricted their mobility, Labib had come to enjoy the encounters. And he knew the freedom he experienced at these moments was something worth sharing with fellow Palestinians.

Brunch with the Bongos

No, we really didn’t eat with the Bongos. We took Josh to Boma, a restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, for brunch. We had been to Boma for the dinner buffet once, but prefer the brunch buffet, which we’ve done a few times. It’s cheaper than dinner, for one, but you also have great opportunities to see the animals surrounding the lodge before and after your meal. When we asked Josh where we could go to celebrate his first engineering job, he chose Boma. The food is delicious, with something for everyone. We enjoy trying the African recipes. A few … Continue reading Brunch with the Bongos
