Around Lake Michigan

After Staff Training, we went to visit our financial partners and friends from Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Instead of turning around and re-tracing our route, we continued the drive and went around Lake Michigan. We slowed our pace and stopped to see lighthouses, beaches, and historic sites. This photo is of the Mackinac Light and Bridge. We also went up to Sault Ste. Marie and saw a little bit of Lake Superior and watched a barge and boats go through the locks. We had a great trip and have lots of captioned photos to share with you. Continue reading Around Lake Michigan

A Colorado Road Trip

We always have one day off during the middle of Campus Crusade’s National Staff Conference. We usually like to get up into the mountains and do some hiking. After walking around Lily Lake, it started to drizzle, so we went for a little drive and discovered a 1920’s Bucyrus-Erie steam shovel in operation at a museum right along the road in Nederland, Colorado. Of course, we had to get out of the car and watch! If you would enjoy captioned photos from our day in the mountains, go to our online photo album. National Museum – Naval Aviation

We highly recommend the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola. We only spent two hours there. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour which gave us a history of the development of naval aviation. This tour is perfect if you only have a short time to visit. If we go back I would want to have more time to see the displays. I would also check ahead to see when they are offering their outside tours and when the Blue Angels are scheduled to practice. We saw some other aircraft landing and taking off while we were there. As we drove on the … Continue reading National Museum – Naval Aviation

Oak Alley Plantation

We really enjoyed this lovely plantation. We had a simple breakfast in their restaurant mid-morning and then took a slower pace, enjoying the beautiful grounds before taking the house tour. Afterwards, we drove along the Mississippi River to see if we could photograph other plantations. We were able to see three more plantations along route 18. If you want a nice day trip you could photograph even more along The River Road between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Our photos are of Oak Alley, Evergreen, Laura, and St. Joseph.
