Three Decades Later: Penn State

When church historians write about the events which swept across college campuses in the 70’s, they will talk about the unique movement of God which not only captured the hearts of thousands of students, but also launched hundreds into missions. It was in this spiritual atmosphere we gave our lives to Jesus. While at Penn State, Mike saw how God raised up young laborers for His Harvest which continues more than three decades later.

During Mike’s senior year (1979), nearly 1,000 students were active in Penn State’s Campus Crusade ministry with over 800 in small discipleship groups.  A large number of these committed their lives to impacting the world for Christ. Continue reading “Three Decades Later: Penn State”

Staff Training 2013

“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”  ~  Jude 1:3 NKJV

Cru recently held its biennial conference on the campus of Colorado State University (our venue-of-choice for nearly 40 years). More than 4,500 U.S. missionaries heard from various speakers, including Cleveland pastor Alistair Begg of Truth for Life and author Lisa Harper (popular speaker at Women of Faith conferences). Equipping Student Leaders around the World

Dr. Bill Bright in his early years of ministry at UCLA.

“Win the campus today, win the world tomorrow.”

 ~ Dr. Bill Bright

Campus Crusade for Christ’s continued emphasis has always been to reach students on all the world’s campuses, especially since these young men and women become tomorrow’s leaders. Initially, every local campus ministry, now called Cru, was lead by our staff and their student-disciples; however, our limited number of staff can’t possibly reach all the world’s universities.

Ann C., who tracks our global ministries, explains: “In 2011, [we reported] 1,742 Student Population Centers with a Cru presence globally. (Cru counts SPC’s because there isn’t always a physical campus, or large universities can have multiple campuses.)”

We continue to train and equip student leaders to be lifelong laborers and to reach their campuses Continue reading “Equipping Student Leaders around the World”

Our “Tour” of Cru’s International Headquarters

Join us on a “tour” of Campus Crusade for Christ’s International headquarters.  God has blessed us with beautiful buildings and grounds as well as wonderful people to minister with. We hope these photos will encourage you to consider visiting if you make a trip to Orlando sometime.

The best way for us to show you Lake Hart is to send you over to a captioned slideshow. We have photos of the grounds; the JESUS Film Tour; the prayer rooms; the memorial wall and garden honoring Dr. Bright; and more. Continue reading “Our “Tour” of Cru’s International Headquarters”

Mattie: A Student’s Changed Life

 Mattie’s Story

In high school Mattie was involved with drinking and drugs. Raised in an agnostic Muslim home, she hated herself for her rebellious lifestyle, especially when her mother died of cancer in Mattie’s senior year.

Mattie started attending church with some friends and gave her life to Christ that same year, but she still struggled. Mattie explains:

“My relationship with my boyfriend eventually ended…. My entire sense of worth came from him… so at that point my only option was to turn back to God.  I had to figure out God’s love for me as well as how to love him back.  But I didn’t know where to start.”

Mattie joined a Bible study with Cru at Boston University in her freshman year.  This past spring break she attended our Big Break Conference in Panama City, Florida. While there Mattie heard a speaker describe God’s love: “He spoke of Jesus [washing] his followers’ feet. That picture made so much sense to me…They didn’t deserve this or earn it.  Rather, this was how much he loved them.”

“We woke up the next morning, and went to talk with people on the beach. … I saw a girl [who] was hopelessly drunk and … had cuts on her hands, sand all over her face, and vomit streaked throughout her hair. Her name was Sydney. Continue reading “Mattie: A Student’s Changed Life”
