Persuasion and Example

To paraphrase 2 Corinthians 5: 9 – 11, because I know that my life is a stewardship of the life God has given me, I seek to win people over by persuasion and example. So, how can I be intentional in seeking people for Christ? Just being around them and loving the lost exposes them to the life of Christ. • Visit your neighbor • Chat with your mailman • Have neighbors over for games and dessert Who else might I see regularly that I can get to know? • People at the gym • The grocery clerk • A … Continue reading Persuasion and Example

The Right Tract at the Right Time

I was waiting my turn as the clerk answered questions for the man in front of me. I was half-listening and began to check my purse for tracts. Nuts! I thought. I had not re-stocked my purse and only had Spanish Four Laws. “Where are you from?” the clerk asked his customer. “Mexico,” he replied. As the man finished his purchase, I welcomed him to our country and he accepted a tract from me. Like many non-English-speaking people I meet, he was pleased to get a booklet in his own language. I was amused that God made sure I had … Continue reading The Right Tract at the Right Time

Too Much of a Good Thing

The clerk watched me rummaging through my purse. I had already paid and should have been walking away. I was pawing through more than seven varieties of tracts trying to find the right one. The minute this took to do was agonizingly long. This is awkward, I thought, as I finally handed her a little green booklet. I went home and removed some of the tracts. Normally, I chat a little while a clerk is ringing up my purchase. I also try to use their name or at least read their name badge. I get my tract out while they … Continue reading Too Much of a Good Thing

Freedom

I felt lighter… and not just because I had just tossed a boxful of unread magazines into the dumpster! For a long time I felt obligated that I must read those magazines. I finally realized it was not going to happen and decided to just toss them out! I definitely had a sense of freedom now that I did not have to find the time in my life or the space in my home for those magazines. Since then, I have donated old educational magazines to schools, which were very glad to get them. (Nursing homes or other places may … Continue reading Freedom

The Seed of the Church

Three Men Martyred in Turkey The details were grisly and shocking. The brutal murder of three Christians has the attention of many people in Turkey and around the world. Susanne, the wife of the German missionary, told reporters, “Oh, God forgive them, for they know not what they do,” quoting Jesus’ words on the Cross. Her words are powerful in a world where revenge is the norm. Martyrs: The Seed of the Church We do not know at this time what the impact of the murders and of her forgiveness will have on Turkey. Throughout the centuries, wherever martyrdom occurs, … Continue reading The Seed of the Church

In Light of Eternity

“Mark was walking home from school one day when the boy ahead of him tripped and dropped his books, two sweaters, a baseball glove, and other odds and ends. Mark knelt down and helped the boy pick up the scattered items. Since they were going the same way, he helped carry some of the stuff. “As they walked Mark discovered the boy’s name was Bill, that he loved baseball and history, that he was having trouble with his other subjects, and that his girlfriend had just broken up with him. “They arrived at Bill’s house and spent the afternoon in … Continue reading In Light of Eternity
