Stewards of Grace and Gifts

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10 This was a new thought to me that I am a steward of God’s grace and of the spiritual gift He gives me. The gift belongs to Him. I should not be proud about my spiritual gift. I should be a good steward and use what God has given me. To make the best use of my spiritual gift I can study about it as well as apply it. My gift is to be used for … Continue reading Stewards of Grace and Gifts

The King’s Home

I lowered the tray of colorful Christmas cookies and suggested, “Pick one out for your Daddy, too.” Two little boys with big brown eyes reached up and picked out their favorites. “I want the castle,” said the oldest as he clutched the church-shaped cookie. “Well,” I chuckled. “that’s a church, but you could call it a home for a King.” The youngest wanted to eat his green tree cookie AND Daddy’s star, too, . . . right then. I had a few more brief visits with them and with their mother, Cathy, for several months, and then one afternoon last … Continue reading The King’s Home

Marco, continued

“I pray but I don’t need to go to church…” Marco began to defend himself for not attending Mass. I briefly mentioned the importance of being with other believers, but decided to ask instead, “Do you read the Bible?” “No,” he admitted. “What kind of relationship would you have with your son if you did not talk to each other?” I asked. “You talk to God through prayer and He CAN talk to you through prayer, too, but He mainly speaks to us through the Bible.” I followed Marco around as he treated our home for insects. We talked about … Continue reading Marco, continued

Goodies and the Good News

“I lost two pounds.” Jose is a big man and he was looking right at me when he said this. I was mulling over what to do with this information and later was VERY glad I did not congratulate him. As a plumbing supervisor, he was not talking to me at all, but to his two assistants who were testing our house’s water pressure! We were expecting a team of plumbers to come and replace all our pipes, so I made some brownies the day before and had them on the kitchen table with some tracts. Those brownies were a … Continue reading Goodies and the Good News

Operation Christmas Child

For many years, our family has been making shoe box gifts for Operation Christmas Child of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. I knew Christian literature was included with our boxes, but did not think too much about the impact of these gifts until this year. I read in Samaritan’s Purse’s literature about last year’s follow-up program. “More than 1.2 million children from 57 nations enrolled in the 10-lesson Bible study course… and over 430,000 have accepted Jesus into their hearts.” I also read about an entire village in the Ukraine coming to Christ and starting a church because of the boxes … Continue reading Operation Christmas Child
