Celebrating a Ministry Legacy of Sixty Years!

Nancy Moore clearly remembers December 2, 1952.   As a sophomore at UCLA, she attended a meeting sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ.  Afterwards, a woman approached her and asked:

“Did you enjoy the meeting tonight?”
“Yes, very much.”

“Did all of this make sense to you?”
“Yes, I think it did.”

“Have you ever personally asked Christ to come into your heart?”
“No.”

“And would you like to?”
“Yes, I would.”

Later, the two met between classes in the woman’s car and talked more about what it meant to accept Christ. That day, Nancy asked Jesus to be her Savior.

Eventually, Nancy, a nurse, and her husband, Mark, a pilot, became missionaries to Brazil through the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. Their first day on the mission field, she saved the life of a man who came to their door with a bullet wound in his neck, even though they had no electricity and no medical supplies.  While serving in Brazil, they planted and cared for thirty churches.

Every December 2nd, even in the jungle, Nancy wrote a letter to the woman who took the initiative to share Jesus with her.  It wasn’t until this summer, though, that she learned she was the first person this woman had knowingly led to the Lord.  That woman was Vonette Bright, the co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ.   Nancy may even be the first person known to have accepted Christ through the ministry of Campus Crusade.

Vonette and Nancy stood together on stage during our National Staff Conference while we all celebrated the ministry’s 60th Anniversary.  Nancy and Vonette are living examples of our mission of winning others to Christ, building them in their faith, and sending them out to reach others.   As we move forward with a new name, Cru, we will continue to focus on these elements of Christ’s Great Commission to all His followers.

Sus celebrated, too, for her 36th year with Campus Crusade.  We attended a reception one evening with other staff who were celebrating their major milestones. We had a great time with friends as we reminisced about how God has worked over the years.  Thank you for joining with us over the years to reach people with the Gospel.
