Looking for a Change

Brenda owns bobcats . . . and that is not the only thing I have learned about her that is unusual. When I shared a tract with her and asked her about her spiritual background, she said, “You would not believe me if I told you.” “Go ahead,” I urged her. She proceeded to tell me that she had had a vision of Christ. “He was as real as if He was in my living room. He was beautiful!” “Has this changed your life?” I asked. (I was not sure, of course, if her vision was from God or “the … Continue reading Looking for a Change

The Knock at the Door

A lanky teen, dressed in black, waited at our door with a group of his friends. After we chatted with him, we barely sat long before we had to pop up again and answer the doorbell. A sweet little girl stood at the door, her hair in pigtails, asking if we could give her something for free. Yes, it is “Trick or Treat” time again. We consider it a perfect time to hand out tracts with our candy. (It’s gotta be chocolate if they are going to remember YOUR house!) What an opportunity to offer the free gift of salvation … Continue reading The Knock at the Door

A flute recital

Our very busy and fun weekend continued with a flute recital for my cousin’s daughter, Erin.  Sus’ Aunt Dolly was also there. If you love great music, the acclaimed Stetson University School of Music has regular concerts.  Use the “search events” on the school calendar under “concerts” to find out what’s scheduled during your time at DeLand.  This recital was in the beautiful Lee Chapel in historic Elizabeth Hall.  Elizabeth Hall is modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. We highly recommend the Candlelight concert in the chapel at Christmas time. NOTES: Go to this link to see all our pictures … Continue reading A flute recital

The next day in St. Augustine

We started our second day with a little birdwatching at a wildlife reserve and then headed into town to enjoy America’s oldest city. On this trip, we toured the Old Saint Augustine Village. We have made several trips to Saint Augustine. You can see selected photos from all the trips at The Schmitt Album, St. Augustine Trips. We want to also recommend, from a previous trip, dinner at the Creekside Dinery. The food was excellent and after dinner, we could sit on the patio next to the creek and roast marshmallows over a fire. NOTES: Go to this link to … Continue reading The next day in St. Augustine

A President, a politician, and a Munchkin

Jenny had a four-day weekend, so we decided to do a little trip up to St. Augustine. First, we stopped at DeLeon Springs State Park. We made pancakes at our table from freshly-milled flour. It’s a fun place for breakfast! Then, we left this rustic setting and headed to St. Augustine for a tour of Flagler College. Hotel Ponce de León was a resort hotel in the early part of the twentieth century. On our tour of the campus, we met Rep. William Proctor, a Florida State legislator. He was in Proctor Library (named after him, of course – he … Continue reading A President, a politician, and a Munchkin

Heaven

“As human beings, we have a terminal disease called mortality. The current death rate is 100 percent. Unless Christ returns soon, we’re all going to die. We don’t like to think about death; yet, worldwide, 3 people die every second, 180 every minute and nearly 11,000 every hour. If the Bible is right about what happens to us after death, it means that more than 250,000 people every day go either to Heaven or Hell.” ~~~~~~~ This excerpt is from Heaven by David Alcorn (pp. xx – xxi). I actually prefer his shorter work, In Light of Eternity. I haven’t … Continue reading Heaven
