Baby Limpkins
Two parents and five babies swam away from me to a reedy area for more protection. The limpkin is rare, but you can see them regularly now along the north shore of Kissimmee’s Lake Toho. Continue reading Baby Limpkins

DeLand, Florida, is just an hour or less from Orlando or Daytona Beach and offers a variety of things to do. If you’re a tourist visiting Disney or the other attractions, maybe you would find something to break the “tourist mold” on your way to Daytona Beach. There’s something for everyone! Since we love to share our photos, I just had to share this photo taken by Ben during the 2010 National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D. C. Maybe this spring photo will brighten your corner of the world. Continue reading Cherry Blossom Time
Central Florida’s week of free arts and culture, Arts Fest, began yesterday. We enjoyed going to several events last year.
This year we went online for limited free tickets, as soon as they were available, to attend a concert in the large auditorium at Dr. Joel Hunter’s Northland Church.
The German State Philharmonic was led by conductor Philippe Entremont. For one number, two grand pianos were center stage, surrounded by the orchestra. German pianist Sebastian Knauer performed a duet with Mr Entremont simultaneously conducting and playing the piano.
Our evening out together included dinner at Panera’s, so we made two college students very happy last night even if it meant Mike didn’t get home until after midnight!
Check out the Arts Fest 2011 schedule if you’re in Orlando this week for some fun things to see and do. Continue reading Arts Fest 2011
Some ideas for when you visit Vero Beach.
The Ocean Grill has very tasty food (pricey, though) and a fun, eclectic interior. You could park near the restaurant and do shops and walk the beach. There’s plenty of beach access points along A1A north and south of Vero Beach. Disney has a resort north of the restaurant on A1A.
We stopped at the McLarty Treasure Museum. It was fascinating to learn about 1,500 survivors stranded here when a fleet of Spanish treasure ships sank off the coast in 1715.
We only had a half hour to stop at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. I can’t guarantee you would see dolphins, but if you want to try, we saw a pod of dolphins feeding in the river.
Here’s a good list of things to do in and near Vero Beach. Continue reading Vero Beach
