A Walk By Faith

Strange noises from who knows what came out of the jungle. Every time Janey heard the strange sounds, she looked in the direction of the noise and fell into the underbrush . . . probably disturbing the “who-knows-whats” of the African bush. Earlier, Janey and a group of others had traveled for hours and arrived at “who-knows-where” and decided to have a picnic. They had been showing the “Jesus” film near Illoran, Nigeria, and decided to take a little break from the showings at a beautiful waterfall. Afterwards, they discovered the van was stuck. The group found several young boys … Continue reading A Walk By Faith

While They Work

I try to be aware of the fact that the person I am often chatting with is at work. I do not want to get them in trouble by talking too long. Most of the time with clerks of course, I do not have a very long conversation, especially if someone is waiting in line behind me. Only once have I continued a conversation while a clerk started helping the next customer. I normally would not do that. If no one is in line behind me, I would like to get in the habit of seeing if we can talk … Continue reading While They Work

MP3 and Me

“There she is again,” I thought. Almost every time I went to the fitness center, I saw a tall, Middle Eastern young woman. I had never talked to her and I was feeling awkward as the weeks turned to months. It seemed that she was a little awkward about seeing me, too. Normally, I strike up conversations early. The longer the time goes from initial encounter to introduction, the harder I find it to introduce myself. During this time, I had also been given a MP3 player, so I was listening to music or audio books when I could have … Continue reading MP3 and Me

Up in the Air

Sometimes it might be difficult to get a conversation going. You’ve been there, I’m sure. Perhaps you’re seated next to someone for a transcontinental flight, like I was last month. After repeated attempts, I just could not get into a spiritual subject with Shelly. “Are you interested in spiritual things?” I finally just asked her, like stepping out into mid-air. We went through the “Would You Like to Know God Personally” booklet even though she indicated she was a Christian. Again, I was not very confident of her spiritual foundation, so I felt I must present the Gospel and not … Continue reading Up in the Air

Goodies and the Good News

“I lost two pounds.” Jose is a big man and he was looking right at me when he said this. I was mulling over what to do with this information and later was VERY glad I did not congratulate him. As a plumbing supervisor, he was not talking to me at all, but to his two assistants who were testing our house’s water pressure! We were expecting a team of plumbers to come and replace all our pipes, so I made some brownies the day before and had them on the kitchen table with some tracts. Those brownies were a … Continue reading Goodies and the Good News
