God Opens a Door

“Excuse me.”

We stopped, as two young Asian men approached us on the sidewalk. We had just left a meeting in a large college stadium with over 5,000 people and had crossed the street with many others from the conference for an outdoor ice cream social.

“What is going on?” the students asked.

We explained that we were on the staff of Cru and were attending a National Staff conference on their campus for the entire week.

These two students were from China and were studying over the summer. We were able to talk with them for several minutes about faith in Christ and gave them some tracts.

How to Share Your Faith at Christian Events

If you find yourself at a large Christian gathering, you might assume you will have no one to share with. Stay available and look for these opportunities:

  • Other travelers along your route
  • Hotel and car rental employees
  • Janitorial staff
  •  Waitresses
  •  The cafeteria workers

Of course, you’ll want to be sensitive that the person you’re sharing with might have been approached by many people already. I actually have not found this to be the case, unfortunately. In these situations, conference attendees are caught up in their schedules and their friends.

Two years ago, as I gave tracts to the students working at the front desk, I would chat with them and learn their name and, as far as I know, I was the only one who gave them a tract. At the health fair, I thanked the nurse for taking my blood and handed her a tract. It was the first one she had received. I don’t know if anyone else talked with her later on.

    1. I added a widget last week for EveryStudent.com (see yellow box in left sidebar). The article, “Does God Exist” was actually written by a friend of mine. She was an atheist and writes about six things that convinced her God exists. She has a number of people who answer emails for the site who would respond to you personally (and much more quickly and thoroughly than I’m able to at this time.)

      1. Have you ever thought about how weird it is that your god has just as much evidence for his existence as every other god out there? Or why he has stopped doing big visible miracles?

        Have you considered the fact that the old testament says that you shouldn’t add anything more to the word of your god, which pretty much indicates that the New Testament is fake?

    1. You believe those are miracles because you want to believe that they are miracles.

      Some problems with the links.

      #1: That is in no way an unbiased source.
      #2: These stories are just hearsay. There’s not one shred of evidence.
      #3: You and the author of these stories automatically rule out that the cure could have come about naturally.
      #4: How do you know it was your god that did the miracling? You don’t? Well, okay then.
      #5: Demonic possession is not a medical diagnosis. So in other words it’s made-up by a non-doctor. (I can cure imaginary ills too, you know).
      #6: I am not impressed that superstitious African village folk are convinced by the power of Jesus.
      #7: You call convincing said village folk a miracle? Why, Moses parted a sea and called down plagues. This hardly compares and can easily be written off as gullibility.

        In all you’ve written you seem convinced of your position. I’m sorry you don’t see these stories for the real miracles they are. Of course, the greatest miracle of all is Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

        So, the real question is, would you be interested in knowing God personally or not (whether or not I can write something very convincing for you)? When all the discussion dies out, the bottom line is would you want to know that God exists and that He cares about you?

  3. Do you realize that the miracle of Jesus’s resurrection is not convincing to anyone that requires actual evidence for such an occurance? Do you believe that the bible is good evidence for a non-Christian?

    It sounds to me like you have only tried convincing people that are either gullible or Christians.

    What would be the best argument/piece of evidence you have for your god’s existence, if you were to talk to someone that doesn’t buy “because I said so” as an explanation?

    By the way, “they are too miracles” is not a good response to my seven points, I’m sure you realize this.

      I’ll check out this free eBook. I have neighbors I’m loving to Christ and hope this book will help me address their skepticism.
