A major event in Campus Crusade for Christ’s history was the Big Thompson flood of 1976 which occured during our biennial U.S. Staff Training. We lost seven of our women leaders who were at a retreat center at the mouth of the canyon. Also, because of the flood, several others, such as Vonette Bright, were unaccounted for during about 24 hours.
Mike and I were driving through the Big Thompson canyon a day before this year’s National Staff Conference, so I’ve included a photo of this beautiful Colorado canyon today, but in July of 1976, it was a raging flood. The following video from some of the flood’s survivors is a tribute to God’s faithfulness.
