We were sad when we learned of Timothy Keller’s passing on Friday, May 19, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. I would like to recommend some of his books and other material I’ve read.
My Recommended Reading List of Dr. Timothy Keller’s Works
Books
The Prodigal God
I’ve read and re-read Tim Keller’s wonderful book on the Parable of the Prodigal Son. In The Prodigal God, Dr. Keller points out the significance of the two sons in this story and thoroughly examines that the parable was directed to the Pharisees.
I highly recommend this powerful little book to understand what Jesus taught in His parable.
Jesus the King
This book is another must-read. Keller walks us through the gospel of Mark in his easy-to-read style. You will know and love Jesus more after you read Jesus the King.
Center Church
Dr. Keller helps us understand the culture, urban churches, and church-planting. I’m not in those arenas, so I especially appreciated his opening my mind and heart to the needs of the city. Like many of Keller’s books, Center Church is also available in other languages.
Shorter Works
“Deconstructing Defeater Beliefs”
Don’t let the imposing title of this short presentation put you off. It’s excellent.
Tim Keller explains how to communicate the Gospel to the Western mind.
“Preaching in a Secular Culture”
This is a very rich nine-page document. It’s worth your time to read and absorb it. Dr. Keller’s advice is not just for preachers but is also useful for teaching a Bible study or giving a short testimony. We should be pointing to Jesus in what we say and how we say it.
