A seed has sprouted

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.” ~ I Corinthians 3:6 NIV Alysson was very grateful to God for her little girl. After several failed pregnancies and her last pregnancy, which almost took her live, Alysson was grateful. . . and her husband was bitter. I had only just met this gal who worked at the fitness center. She managed to tell me her whole life story in about six minutes. I left her with a tract and with an invitation to come hear a creation speaker at our church. “I’ll come,” she enthused. “My … Continue reading A seed has sprouted

How Long Will The Door Be Open?

“Cops!” Carmen exclaimed. “I jest transferred from a deferent store. They deed not have cops there.” She shook her head and kept staring across the parking lot at a police car. “Well,” I replied, “a liquor store can attract trouble.” If I’m available to God, I accept help with my grocery cart so I have a few minutes to talk with the “bagger.” It helped that Carmen was chatty, even if her English was hard to understand. After my groceries were loaded in the car, I handed her a Spanish Four Laws and pointed out the Da Vinci Code web … Continue reading How Long Will The Door Be Open?

DaVinci DiLemma

“Have you read The DaVinci Code?” Bruce asked in his warm, London accent. “No,” we admitted, our thoughts searching for any useful nugget in our brains that we could unearth for this occasion. This was a year ago before the recent media hype. Our winter neighbors, Bruce and Sarah, were over for dessert and a game of Cranium. God practically dropped this opening in our laps to talk about spiritual things and we didn’t know how to handle it! Later, when The DaVinci Code mini-magazines came out in February this year, I took two copies next door to Bruce and … Continue reading DaVinci DiLemma

Fine-tuning

I had already given Jasmin a tract. We were talking further when a van pulled up from a radio station. “Do you listen to that station?” she asked. “No,” I said, “I listen to Z88.3.” “I do, too,” she replied and also mentioned a Spanish radio station. My first reaction was to assume she was a Christian. I was ready to pull out a “Satisfied?” tract for Christians (about how to live the Spirit-filled life), but fortunately, I asked her why she listened. “Because it’s safe for my children to listen, too,” Jasmin explained. After asking more questions, I found … Continue reading Fine-tuning

When the face is familiar

I know her face, I thought, as I chatted with the clerk at Wal-Mart. I remembered I might have given her a tract on one of my shopping trips. I hesitated that I should give her a tract again and I almost didn’t. I could not remember what she had said so many months ago or if she had accepted the booklet. “Do you remember this booklet?” I asked as I handed her a “Would You Like To Know God Personally?” tract. “Yes! I love these!” she exclaimed. As I asked her why she liked tracts, Daphne seemed to indicate … Continue reading When the face is familiar

What price for salvation?

A young man waited at our door with a container of items at his feet. We have made it a policy not to support things we don’t know about, so I said “no” and then gave him a tract. I really wasn’t surprised later that day to see the tract tossed aside on my neighbor’s sidewalk. I did not “invest” in this young salesman to “gain a hearing” for the Gospel. Just spending time talking to him would have shown I really was interested in him. Would spending a few minutes or a few dollars have brought an eternal return? … Continue reading What price for salvation?
